• Our sofas are crafted from timber, carbon steel springs and high-density foam (three types, for Dopha’s special balance of comfort, support and bounce). Encased in a microfibre ‘inner’ cover. 
• Our covers come in a variety of materials, with a focus on natural fibers (such as cotton and linen) and recycled polyesters (made from repurposed bottles). All of our fabrics are REACH compliant and OEKO TEX Standard 100 certified, and our recycled options are recycled according to the Global Recycled Standard.
• Our cushions are filled with sustainably sourced feathers.

We source our fabrics from Denmark, and make our sofas in China – with some of the best makers in the business (we’re biased, but we believe it!). We selected our makers for their attention to detail and quality control. And we ask all of our makers and suppliers to adhere to our Code of Conduct that ensures fair pay and good working conditions for all. We have personally visited our factory and can vouch for that. 

They say that nothing good comes easy – and we hope that the effort to get your sofa set up the first time comes with great reward. Each module arrives nude, with covers packaged separately – you’ll need to pull its cover over firmly and attach it along the bottom for a tight fit. We provide gloves and velcro guard strips to make it a little easier. Once the covers are one, you just need to position your modules so that the attachment hooks are aligned, and push them together until they click into place. You should have received a how-to by email before your sofa arrived – if you didn’t get one, please let us know. 

The next hardest part is deciding what to binge watch when you sit down.

They click together with pre-attached connectors. Each module has a sturdy metal hook or node underneath that clicks together and holds firm. If you want to separate your modules for any reason, you just lift the module with the ‘node’ up until it’s away from the hook. It’s even easier than it sounds.

One module at a time, separate the strips around the base, then pull up and off like pulling a sweater over a kid’s head. Once you’re ready to put them back on again, do so as you did when the sofa first arrived – remember the spare velcro guard you would have received then. It’s much easier to get your covers into place with the velcro protected.

Absolutely! That’s what we’re about. If it’s a Dopha cover, it’s machine washable to 30°C max. Please just never put them in a tumble dryer, as any amount of minor shrinkage will make it impossible to refit your covers (and, unfortunately, void your cover warranty).

That really depends on you, your household, your couch-time snack habits and your level of cleanliness. Have a dog? Or some kids? Or a favourite movie snack that’s messier than the average? You might want to wash (or swap) your covers every 4–6 months. But on average we imagine once a year would be plenty. We will leave it up to you – you’re in control here.

Yes! Because we're perfectionists (a blessing and a curse). We tested our sofas a lot before launch, but when it came to receiving the first full production batch packaged for delivery, we realised we could make your first moments with your Dopha even better. Including:

• Easier fit.

We want to make our covers easier to get on (for the more impatient among us), by tweaking the pattern a touch. This won’t be a visible change – just a practical one.  

• Upgraded internal stitching.

Usually with a sofa, you never get to see the underside of the upholstery. But because Dopha is all about the removable covers, we want the inner sides to be as pretty as the outer ones. We’re working with our factory to change some of the internal stitching, mostly for aesthetic reasons. Because your first impression matters to us.  

• Plumper cushions.

Our cushion cover dimensions are getting a tweak, to make the insert sit more pert and full and eliminate some of the slouchiness.  

• Less assembly. 

Currently, the sofa legs come packaged separately in the box. And while they aren’t hard to screw on (even easier if you own a drill or electric screwdriver), we believe Dopha is better than that. So, moving forward the size of our boxes will be bigger to allow the legs to remain attached, no need for tools. 

Once this first batch of covers is sold and our perfectionists are happy (are they ever?), we don’t plan to discount our products again. So enjoy this moment, and we thank you for your support.

Dopha was created to extend the life of the sofa – and make sure a worn cover is not the reason a perfectly good piece of furniture ends up in landfill.

We are super conscious about everything we out into the world. If it doesn’t add value, we don’t want to do it. So we make sure our products are made to last, and use considered materials that prioritise natural or recycled sources where possible. 

But our product is only one part of the story. For packaging, we keep things as minimal as possible, and use recycled (and recyclable) PET bubble wrap, recycled (and recyclable) plastic poly bags and FSC certified paper stocks.

Ethically sourced feathers are collected once they have naturally shed from the bird, or as a by-product of the meat industry. Never plucked from a bird while it is alive. It also means that the farms on which those birds live meet set standards for quality of life.

Apart from (hopefully) enriching our customers' lives with good, sustainable furniture, we donate a portion of our profits to hard-working charities combatting homelessness in Australia. Because we believe everyone deserves a comfort zone of their own.

Shipping costs are calculated based on your order and shipping location. Because shipping furniture is complicated and costly, we subsidise it to make it as simple and affordable as possible for you.

Allow us 1–2 days to pack your order and load it onto the delivery truck. From there, it should take:

3–5 business days to Melbourne or Sydney 
5–7 business days to Brisbane or Adelaide
7–10 business days to Perth and regional areas 
14–21 business days to places where the wildlife outnumbers the people 

Got sudden cold feet about choosing a red couch? That’s ok – reach out to us as soon as you do, and we’ll see if we can modify it before it’s shipped. This usually means you’ll need to let us know within 12–24 hours. If it’s already shipped, you’ll need to follow our returns process for an exchange. The best part is, if it's the colour you're unsure about, you only need to exchange the cover!

Because of the added logistics involved in shipping such a large item, we recommend you check the measurements and make sure it’s right for your space before you order. If you need help, email us first. 

Having said that, we want you to love your Dopha sofa, and can arrange a return within 14 days if you change your mind. We can arrange return shipping (with subsidised rates), but the cost of that is up to you.

Covers can be returned or exchanged individually within 14 days as well.

If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, of course we will gladly make that right with a refund or exchange – at no cost to you.

Our sofas come with a 10-year warranty because we intend them to last decades – under fair and normal use. Covers have a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects, not against shrinking in the tumble dryer (because, well, we told you so).

Please note: covers received during our soft launch (that you would have received for free) aren’t covered by warranty.

Well heaven forbid! We don’t intend on going anywhere. But if, for whatever reason, we are no longer able to sell our replacement covers, we will make sure that the pattern and specifications are available so that anyone proficient in sewing upholstery fabrics will be able to make a replacement cover for you.

All of Dopha’s covers are machine washable to 30 degrees. We recommend using mild detergent, and drying out of direct sunlight (to prevent any sun bleaching). 

Dry cleaning is also an option.  

Please don’t put them in a tumble dryer, as they may shrink and you won’t be able to get them back on your sofa.

We’ve done what we can to create a product that will last. Decades, hopefully! But, life isn’t perfect and if something does happen to your sofa, reach out to us at hello@dopha.co and if you’re covered by warranty, we’ll replace it.
